Cam 2Cambodia is a country emerging from the shadows of civil war and genocide in a desperate strive to reeducate and develop its population. The Khmer people have an incredible eagerness to learn and have their sights set firmly on the future. No looking back. This striking country is an assortment of dense forests, exotic beaches and historic temples that satisfy the visitors every need. Discover, learn and experience Cambodia through Invasion Jobs. Choose from one of our packages and have the experience of a lifetime.

Aside from the impeccable landscape and its temples, the Khmer people are the real treasure of the country. With the warmest hearts and biggest smiles, the people of Cambodia are relaxed whilst welcoming and will surely make an impression on your trip. With a resilient spirit and contagious positivity, teaching and working alongside the Khmer people will definitely be a pleasure.

Named the ‘Kingdom of Wonder’, Cambodia surely lives up to its name. The legacy of one of the world’s greatest civilizations lies near Angkor, these abandoned temples spread for over 200 kilometers and are the remains of the Khmer Empire. Now recognized as a UNESCO world heritage site, this site surely highlights the potential of the Khmer people. Beaches in Cambodia can rival those of Thailand minus the tourist circle; Kep and Sihanoukville are long white sandy beaches that are not to be missed. Finally, the capital of Phnom Penh is often overlooked by many but the charismatic capital boasts a stunning riverside location, a Royal Palace and many places to learn the horrors of the Khmer Rouge.Cam 5

Throughout Phnom Penh and Siem Reap there are many opportunities to dine on one of the world’s best cuisines. However the Khmer food itself should be given a try. Fish Amok is the national dish, a light turmeric curry baked in a young coconut that will satisfy anyone after a long day of teaching. Throughout the more developed regions of the country, there is an abundance of ‘give back dining’, where the waiters, chefs and management team are from deprived families and have been given a chance at restoration.

Cam 6Volunteering can be seen as a personal investment. You put in your time and a little bit of money, and get so much in return. It’s undoubtedly the safest investment ever. It is about travel experience, magical encounters, and happiness. Indeed, volunteering is also paradoxical; you may see the poverty and feel it to your bones, but we bet you will never see so many smiles and cheerfulness around you. Hope and spontaneity are simply disarming in these countries defined as ‘developing countries’.

Pros to be a volunteer

  • The experience!! No words to describe it really; your adventure will speak for itself
  • Cheap way to travel
  • The best way to experience a culture, in all of its authenticity
  • An incredible plus on your CV
  • Meet friends and have fun!
  • Former French colony, the French language still plays a large part of Cambodian life

What does it cost to volunteer in Cambodia?

    • First; your time, and as we believe time is precious, we acknowledge your initiative and thank you for visiting our website. Although you can volunteer for just 4 weeks with us, the longer you can stay, the better. The more time you have to give to volunteering, the bigger the impact you will have.
    • Our projects start from £529 and this covers your accommodation, 2 meals a day, Phnom Penh pick up, special rates for your flights, pre-departure support, 24/7 in country support and an orientation on arrival.

Cam 1Rural Orphanage

This orphanage is based on a working farm in a very rural village about two hours outside of the capital Phnom Penh. The orphanage welcomes volunteers of all shapes and sizes. Your main role within the orphanage will be teaching English, but there will also be opportunities for you to get involved on the farm if you wished. The children in the orphanage vary in age but are all so willing to learn, and are sure to make each day of your stay brighter.

During your stay, you will be staying in the orphanage in basic rural accommodation. Volunteers wanting to teach at this orphanage must be prepared for basic living, but although it may come as a shock at first, most people find that this is the best way to experience real Cambodia and make a real difference within the community.

This project includes:

      • Accommodation in the orphanage throughout your stay.
      • Food for one month (2 meals per day including water or tea)
      • Pick up from the airport or from a pre-decided destination within Phnom Penh.
      • Special rates for the booking of your flights
      • Pre-departure support
      • 24/7 in country support

Town based project (Teaching and Local Volunteering)

Based in the Town of Kampot (about three hours outside the capital, Phnom Penh), this project is based in a much more built up area compared to our rural project(although still very basic compared to the western world). In the town there is access to shops, wifi, and a few bars. In this project you will be staying in the main volunteer accommodation based at the Outreach Care Centre. This centre is a base for treating and caring for locals, specialising in the caring for and lending help to sufferers of HIV (mostly helping them clean and feed their children).

Our main project based in this area is our teaching project in a school about 7km away from the town (bicycles will be provided for transport-so it’s a chance to get fit to!). Here, volunteers will be involved in Teaching English as well as helping out in the day to day running of the school. For volunteers that do not want to teach, or for those who want to get involved in other areas, there are also opportunities to help in the Outreach Centre as well as in the local Day Care Centre. Alongside the Outreach Centre is also a volunteer run restaurant, which welcomes hands on volunteers who want to get involved in it’s day to day running (you may even get a chance to better those cooking skills).

This project includes:

  • Accommodation throughout your stay.
  • Food for one month (2 meals per day including water and tea)
  • Pick up from the airport or from a pre-decided destination within Phnom Penh.
  • Special rates for the booking of your flights
  • Pre-departure support
  • 24/7 in country support

The volunteers are requested to teach English (primary level) or support a teacher. Teaching in the schools runs from Monday to Saturday but the expected teaching hours of volunteers vary depending on which location you choose. If you choose our Rural Orphanage option, you will be expected to teach 5 days a week. If you choose our Town based programme, you will be expected to teach 4 afternoons a week.  In addition to your “teaching duties”, volunteers are encouraged to get as involved as possible with other activities. These activities can be simply helping out where needed such as with the cleaning, organising and children’s playtime, or with our Town project volunteers can get involved with the local restaurant, local community and school outings. On your free days we really do encourage you to take this time to travel this amazing country as much as you can-there are some incredible destinations that are not to be missed.

Apply online; at this stage we merely need your name, email, phone and which month you would be like to take part in the project, as well as the length of your stay.
